Bear Lake United Methodist is hosting a “Paddle Auction” on September 21 -come out and join the fun! Details are available on the Events Calendar at WLJN.COM
The Paddle Auction is a fun way to raise money for various projects around the Church. Participants initially purchase a paddle with a number on it. As at a traditional auction the participants bid using the assigned number. However, that is where the similarities stop. In a Paddle Auction participants bid with quarters. The value of the item being auctioned determines the number of quarters participants bid. For example, an item valued at less than $10 would require a one quarter bid. All participants interested in the item would raise their paddle and put one quarter on the table. When their quarter is picked up, their number is placed in a basket with all of the other bidding numbers. As soon as all of the”bids” are collected one number is drawn. That number wins the bid! Item values are divided into four categories. Category 1 items require a one quarter bid, Category 2 items a two quarter bid, Category 3 a three quarter bid , and Category 4 a four quarter bid.
In addition to bidding there will be food available for purchase. Proceeds from the day will go towards the kitchen renovation, new flooring and new counter tops.
